When a manufacturer of mountain bike shocks and springs needed a bushing design for a coil shock, they needed a product that would handle all the rigors and pounding that their mountain bike enthusiasts could dish out.
High shock loads due to the pounding descent over mountainous, uneven terrains at downhill speeds in excess of eighty miles per hour, created a challenge to address. The current PTFE-lined, metal back bearing wore out in less than ten hours, leading to early warranty claims.
Igus provided the solution using their iglide G300 material. Iglide G300 was able to meet low-friction requirements and withstand the compressive loads in this demanding application. The iglide plastic bushing outlasted the PTFE-lined, metal backed bearings by over five times longer when tested head-to-head. This led to reduced warranty claims.
