A glass manufacturing facility was having trouble meeting production and quality requirements. The glass was produced with streaks and smears. The issues were not noticed until the glass was installed all over the United States, which caused millions of dollars in repairs.
The glass rests on Viton O-rings during the coating process, and it was determined that the O-ring was leaving streaks on the glass. This particular customer tried to save money by purchasing a less expensive FKM O-ring.
The customer contacted R.E. Purvis & Associates, Inc. and explained their problem. We reached out to Parker's O-ring Division product specialists, who recommended an FKM O-ring in one of their compounds. In the months of testing that followed, the new O-ring satisifed all of the customer's requirements. Most importantly, the new O-rings resulted in streak-free glass.
